PLAY BASED LEARNING

Little People Nursery School has been recognized in the past for excellence via the Universal PreKindergarten Grant from the State of Massachusetts.

OUR MISSION

At LPNS we believe children learn best by playing, therefore, activities should be purposeful. This allows the child to be part of the process, using all of their senses to experience the world. There should be a balance between active and quiet activities, small and large group, self-directed and teacher-directed activities.

Our school is a place where children are respected for their feelings and their desire to belong, where their desire to explore and their eagerness to take on new challenges is supported, as well as their urges to feel powerful and competent in many ways.

This is where we encourage them to discover the magic and wonder of the world, where they can connect with others, younger and older, alike and different. It's a place where families are welcomed, supported and encouraged to contribute to the life of the classroom.

This year our family built a home not far from the preschool. Switching here was the best thing we could have done for our daughter. They’re the best! They always have great curriculum for the kids, they’re into teaching your kids independence, and they are great about enforcing healthy habits too. My daughter is really shy, but warmed up quickly with all the amazing staff. Mrs. T really makes you feel safe about leaving your children in her care. She’s experienced and the kids really love her. Our family couldn’t be happier with Little People Nursery School. They’re just wonderful.

CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENTS

LPNS provides a small intimate setting where your child can form close bonds with not only other children but with teachers as well.

Toddlers are part of a small group of four children and one teacher. Preschoolers expand to ten children between 2.9 and 5 years of age. Both teachers have been with LPNS for a significant amount of time.

OUR FOUNDER & DIRECTOR

Diane Tousignant started Little People Nursery School over 40 years ago when her first child was born and quality early childhood programs were very scarce. She continued to earn her Master's degree in Early Childhood Education and at one time owned and operated up to five centers.

As her five children grew and finished college, Mrs. T (as her students call her) was happy to down-size back to the smaller center she first started. The limited enrollment allows children to become close friends, a “school family”, with many opportunities to grow in independence which guarantees a smooth transition to kindergarten.
